Driftwood was born out of a vision to bring a fresh take on the lake lifestyle to one of our favorite, often underrated, Lake Michigan communities - Union Pier.
This town is incredibly charming, with sprawling beaches, the best hiking and walking paths, and amazing restaurants, wineries, and breweries -- a true hidden gem.
Years ago, Larry Gough, President of the development team, made the decision to cultivate a unique, intimate, cottage home community in another hidden gem at the time, New Buffalo, MI after he and his family fell in love with the charm of the town. At the time, there were no new developments or modern homes, and certainly nothing that was created with the intention of cultivating a sense of community with a shared pool, sidewalks, planned green space and more. This community has become a prime, often repeat, destination for many city-dwellers and we believe it's time to create a similar, yet upgraded, community in Union Pier.
Meet Our Developer
Larry Gough, founder of Gough & Gough Construction and Investment Property Advisors, has spent more than 50 years building exceptional spaces—from high-end homes to large apartment complexes, garden-style communities, and hotels. As both a developer and general contractor, Larry has worked on projects across the country, collaborating with some of the most respected names in the industry to bring big ideas to life.
A proud graduate of Purdue University with degrees in Civil and Structural Engineering, Larry combines technical expertise with real-world know-how, shaped by a lifetime of wins and hard-earned lessons. His thoughtful approach and dedication to quality are key to Driftwood Union Pier’s vision.
When he’s not working, Larry enjoys cycling, fishing, and spending time with his family. He and his wife, Janet, love traveling and making memories with their kids and grandkids. Whether he’s tackling a project or relaxing by the lake, Larry brings the same passion for doing things the right way and creating something truly lasting.
